Behind the name…
The white spider lily-often called the beach spider lily- symbolizes rebirth, protection, and positive new beginnings.
Its ability to grow from sandy soils, salt spray, and high humidity reflect hope and resilience to thrive in even the most challenging conditions. Another variation-the red spider lily- speaks to death, loss, and the afterlife. Together, both reflect the balance of light and shadow and growth and release.
Our studio is deeply inspired by that space in between ~ honoring transformation, permanence, and the stories we choose to carry on our skin to take to the grave and beyond.
The journey behind Spider Lily Tattoo was anything but the ordinary. Our studio has a past life known as With My Sister, a half tattoo-half flower shop owned and operated by Lianna DeGuzman and her sister-in-law, Veronica Llave. The two shared 4 insanely fun years together, but as both individual businesses bloomed beyond the space, they made the tough decision to part ways in order to make space for new seeds to grow!
Lianna drew inspiration from her first visit to the homeland for the studio rebrand. Seeing the spider lily in the Philippines was love at first sight, and after researching the deeper meaning behind the flower she knew it was meant to be. The name of the flower feels both soft and feminine yet dark and mysterious — and that’s how Spider Lily Tattoo was born!
